Amethodical Systems Development: The Deferred Meaning of Systems Development Methods
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper contributes a deeper understanding of the concept of methodical information systems development. The method concept is an assumption underlying much of the research into systems analysis, design and implementation. A postmodern deconstruction technique is used to discover a deferred concept: amethodical systems development. The methodical and amethodical views are developed in terms of their assumptions and their ideal characteristics. Our understanding of these two opposing views of systems development is important as a means to refocus our aims in research, practice and education in information systems development. 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. Information Systems Development at Internet Speed : A New Paradigm In The Making!
Two studies from 2000-2001 – in U.S. and Denmark – have revealed that the nature of IS development has changed with the coming of Internet Speed. It may not be a revolution, but it is definitely and distinctively different. The new kind of methodology implements amethodical emergent systems development as a new package of practices. Systems are continually growing to adapt to emergent organizat...
متن کاملComplexity, Process and Agility in Small Development Teams: An Exploratory Case Study
The extensive prescriptive literature on software and information systems development methods routinely recommends more methodical, plan-driven approaches for more complex projects and more agile, adaptive approaches for less complex projects. This paper presents a revelatory case study in which a team with no imposed method successfully used a more methodical, plan-driven approach for a simple...
متن کاملImpact of Health Research Systems on Under-5 Mortality Rate: A Trend Analysis
Background Between 1990 and 2015, under-5 mortality rate (U5MR) declined by 53%, from an estimated rate of 91 deaths per 1000 live births to 43, globally. The aim of this study was to determine the share of health research systems in this decrease alongside other influential factors. Methods We used random effect regression models including the ‘random intercept’ and ‘random intercept and ran...
متن کاملDecision-Making and Information Systems Development - A Conceptual Framework
A long-standing anomaly within information systems development (ISD) exists claims made for the benefits of methodology usage and the actuality of practice are poles apart. While both academics and practitioners have been aware of this credibility gap, the information systems (IS) community continue to have difficulty reconciling it. Apparent breakthroughs such as structured and object-oriented...
متن کاملThe Effects of Deferred Grazing System on Vegetation Parameters in Semi-Arid Rangelands (Case Study: Jashlubar, Semnan, Iran)
Rangeland management plan is one of the major means of management and utilization of rangelands in Iran. The formulation of these plans for the rangeland users should be studied from the ecological and socio-economic points of view.
